April 20

We purchased a stand-alone freezer. It’s opened up many new possibilities for how we eat and even how we live, which shouldn’t be too surprising; advances in food storage are often associated with major cultural change. Buying in bulk and saving leftovers allows us a lot of choice in what we eat, so tonight I picked out one of the frozen chickens we bought at a farmer’s market and cooked it with a reheated frozen sauce. Or I also could have put some vegetable soup on the stove and had frozen waffles for dessert. My project for the year will be to buy and store lots and lots of berries.
