We were on U Street looking for someplace to eat, and we found a wine bar in one of those high-rise apartments that look like character-free symbols of gentrification. Yet wine bars are no longer a trend, and if you’re looking for them, these are the kinds of places where they shall be found. Plus, there’s a lot of satisfaction in finding a great meal where a food critic would never deign to enter. First I tried their hummus, which convinced me the rest of their food and other selections would be absolutely first-rate. They had a vermouth menu, and I ordered one that was Spanish, but light-colored unlike the Miró and similar varieties I’m used to; it was like drinking green grapes, and I paired it with a duck sausage on a hot dog bun with dried cherries.
