Right. I came home after an enthralling day of manipulating documents in Powerpoint, and Viet, who was also working late, had brought home a pizza from Costco. I’ve found most of the products at this wholesale warehouse to be both affordable and at good value, but the pizza was smothered in cheese and I couldn’t taste anything else. I had to improve upon it by adding red pepper flakes, and I wonder if we could ever regress to eating food in its most basic and elemental forms; I don’t mean we should go back to foraging for nuts and roots, and I don’t mean nutrition pills either, I mean just eating solid foods with fully discrete and unblended taste profiles. Solid blocks of white cheese with chile flakes sprinkled on top. Maybe put it on a cracker to add a third basic food group. If you want to be healthy then wrap the whole thing in a lettuce leaf, and you’re done.
