It’s midsummer back on the East Coast and the black-eyed susans are in bloom. I found a chihuahua which I thought had escaped from my neighbor’s backyard and I lured it back in and closed the fence, only to learn later that it was a different chihuahua entirely. I was afraid I’d set up some kind of dogfight, but it turned out the dog had got away after I thought I locked it in. In the future I am staying away from dogs.
We went to a pub for dessert and ordered the key lime pie, while a guy near us made some kind of joking insult and then spent the rest of the night apologizing for the insult, and it was more exhausting for us to continue accepting the apology than it would have been to simply take it in stride.
