It was a perfect weekend in August. I made coffee cake in the morning and spent the afternoon reading More Than This by Patrick Ness, a dystopian YA novel that could easily become a movie someday. We watched swimming and ordered Korean from Seoul Food, where they had a special bowl that combined sweet potato noodles and coleslaw with tofu, gochujang (the spicy red paste used in bibimbap), and your choice of an additional protein. The owners of Seoul Food are talented bakers in the American tradition, and they made a carrot cake of sweet cream cheese that gives way to some combination of cinnamon, nutmeg, or cloves.
