There’s a particular taste I associate with Whole Foods cheese that I think might even be a conscious part of the store’s brand, and by this I mean the cheese they leave out in the fruit section and encourage people to sample as they walk in. It was flavored with balsamic vinegar and had a hint of nuts.

Something went on a rampage in the garden, knocking over two of the tomato plants and leaving jalapeños and uprooted onions as debris. The onions, which I planted in the spring, haven’t grown much above the size of shallots, and I no longer think it will be worth my while to cultivate them. The garden looked like it had been visited by a tornado, but probably it was the deer, unless the destruction was indeed precipitated by one of the evening storms that is visiting us this week with regularity.
