We spent the afternoon at the MoMA and I did my best to think about the artistic movements of the past instead of whatever was happening on Facebook, and for dinner we went to one of the branches of Grimaldi’s pizza, which uses coal-fired ovens and is famous for its original location under the Brooklyn Bridge. I’m not any connoisseur of pizza, but I’m at least familiar with the basic taste contours of the Chicago deep dish, New Haven, and Neapolitan varieties, and in this case I didn’t know what I was eating other than a lot of cheese. It also felt unnecessary to be at a restaurant when we could have been sitting on a park bench or walking along the beach.
