About

Who are you, anyway?

Avery Palmer, a writer and publicist in Washington, D.C. I live in Wheaton, Maryland, where you can find places to eat like Seoul Food and Ren’s Ramen. I grew up in Iowa, where I ate a lot of meatloaf.

2016 is a leap year. Shouldn’t this be called 366 Days of Food?

Yes, but I forgot about that when I named the website. This means I will skip one day. I wonder which day it will be?

Do you have any expertise in food or cooking, professionally or otherwise?

Nope.

What books or other media on food and cooking would you recommend?

An excellent question. Lately I’ve taken to the Mediterranean recipes in The Food of Spain by Claudia Roden. I can join many others in endorsing the Ottolenghi cookbooks; I cook a lot from Jerusalem. And Joy of Cooking is a good standby that’s often underappreciated. M.F.K. Fisher got me excited about thinking about food as opposed to just eating it, and some of her books are collected in The Art of Eating.

When it comes to movies, I will go with Pope Francis’s favorite, Babette’s Feast; and, of course, Ratatouille.
